Wadi Dayqah Dam

Overview
Oman is a semi-arid country with few permanent surface water resources. Wadi Dayqah is one of the rare wadis in the Sultanate which is characterized by a continuous flow throughout the year. More than (40) Studies have been carried out during the period (1978-2005) to investigate the possibility of capturing the flash floods for productive use. The studies have concluded that the best option consists of the construction of a 100 Million m3 storage dam which could provide 35 million m3/year on a sustainable basis.
Wadi Dayqah Dam project has been executed in two main phases.
Phase 1: Construction of the dam and associated facilities
Phase 2: Construction of water supply scheme
The first phase was completed in 2009 and included the construction of a Main RCC- Dam (75.43 m height and 410.00 m length) and a Rockfill Saddle Dam (49.16 m height and 360.00 m length) in addition to Intake Tower, SCADA System, exhibition area, and recreation facilities. The second phase is under construction and consists of pumping Stations, aerator tanks, water treatment plant, water tanks and pipelines for potable water supply and Irrigation.

Engr. Nasser Al-Battashi - Assistant to the Director General of Water Resources Assessment responsible for Dams affairs
Engr. Nasser Al-Battashi received his BSc. in Civil Engineering from Sultan Qaboos University in 1991. He obtained his Master of engineering in project management form Victoria University of Technology, Australia in 2003. In addition, completed a postgraduate diploma in planning and design (Building) from the University Of Melbourne, Australia in 2002.
Eng. Nasser has a strong advocate for team work, continuous learning and perfection. For the last 25 years, he has occupied several key positions, civil engineer in dams department, head of execution section in dams department, Director of Dams department and currently he is the Assistant to the Director General of Water Resources Assessment responsible for Dams affairs.
Engr. Nasser was honoured in 2014 with the ministerial award of excellence for the employee of the year for his contribution to the successful management of all projects under his responsibility and the good relation he entertained with all the staff under his supervision.
